Garfield County bullish on new drilling near Rifle

Garfield County

The Garfield County Commissioners signed a letter on Monday, encouraging the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to allow more drilling at the base of the Roan Plateau.

Terra, the energy company, wants to drill just over 60 new wells in an area called the Balzac Gulch, about nine miles west of Rifle.

Terra already has a big extraction operation in the area and  would drill the new wells from their existing well pads.

The BLM is currently assessing the proposal. Garfield’s three commissioners signed a letter in support of the project. The letter stressed just how much the county depends on oil and gas revenue to provide services like fire departments and education.
