Garfield County, RFTA discuss bus service to Battlement Mesa

Aspen Public Radio

Garfield County Commissioners met with members of the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) on Tuesday to discuss a bus service to Parachute and Battlement Mesa.

There’s concern the county’s west side is being left behind due to lack of public transportation.

Currently, RFTA’s Grand Hogback service goes as far as Rifle; commissioners wanted to know the cost of extending the route to Parachute. The answer: Nearly double the price of the existing route.

RFTA also presented a cheaper possibility: A shuttle service between Battlement Mesa and Rifle.

The commissioners said they needed to meet with the different communities involved to gauge the need and interest.
