Glenwood Gears Up For 27th St. Bridge Project

Glenwood Springs is about to embark on another bridge replacement project. Construction on the 27th Street Bridge starts Wednesday.

Inspectors say the current 27th Street Bridge, or the Sunlight Bridge, is at the end of its life. It needs a new deck and it needs to be bigger, in order to accommodate the growing traffic volumes between Highway 82 and Midland Avenue.

Throughout 2019, crews will build the new bridge next to the old one. Then, sometime in the summer, most likely, they’ll remove the old and slide the new one into place.

Starting Wednesday, there will be periodic lane closures on South Grand Ave. between 23rd Street and 29th Street, so construction crews can start working.
