Glenwood Springs Fifth-Grader, Youngest Person To Climb El Capitan, Speaks Friday

Michael Schneiter

Glenwood Springs ten-year-old Selah Schneiter became the youngest person on record to climb El Capitan earlier this summer, scaling the 3,000 foot peak in Yosemite National Park with her father Michael in June. She's now a fifth-grader at Glenwood Springs Elementary School. She says, that's harder.

"I’ve been climbing my whole life, and I just started fifth grade," she said.

Friday at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, the Schneiters will discuss the five-day climb. Selah says, she wants to talk about perseverance.

"You’re not going to get through this life unless you realize that there are some sucky moments," she said.

“Climbing El Capitan” starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
