A High-Tech Alternative To Fireworks

With fire restrictions in place in Pitkin County, the Aspen Chamber Resort Association (ACRA) is exploring a high-tech alternative to fireworks: drones.

In lieu of a fiery display, Aspen’s Fourth of July celebrations will feature choreographed drones, lighting up the sky in sync with patriotic music.

Between 40 to 50 drones will illuminate the sky above Wagner Park. ACRA said the cost of the renting the drones and coordinating the display is about the same as the fireworks in years past.

Depending on this year’s success, a drone show may replace traditional fireworks in Aspen.

Aspen’s inaugural Independence Day Drone Display takes place at Wagner Park at 9:15 p.m.
