Inmate Found Dead In Garfield County Jail

An inmate at the Garfield County Jail was found dead in a cell early Thursday morning.

The man was in a holding cell, where inmates are kept when they’re first admitted to jail.

There were two others in the cell with him. According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s office, both were asleep when officers found the inmate unresponsive, and there’s no suspicion of foul play at this time.

The cause of death is unknown. The man was in jail after allegedly not paying a fine a judge had charged him for a different crime. The man’s body was sent to the county coroner’s office, which will release his name once the next of kin has been reached.
