Lake Christine Fire Officials Upgrade Incident Command

The Lake Christine Fire continues to grow on Basalt Mountain, and hot, dry weather the past couple of days has meant increased activity. It’s estimated to be nearly 8,000 acres, and officials said it grew about 500 acres Wednesday.

On Thursday, a Type 2 incident management team will take over from the current Type 3 team. Officials say this will allow for more resources, including an additional 70 personnel in the next day. It is likely that the fire will continue to spread as dry weather conditions persist through Friday.

Aspen native Elizabeth Stewart-Severy is excited to be making a return to both the Red Brick, where she attended kindergarten, and the field of journalism. She has spent her entire life playing in the mountains and rivers around Aspen, and is thrilled to be reporting about all things environmental in this special place. She attended the University of Colorado with a Boettcher Scholarship, and graduated as the top student from the School of Journalism in 2006. Her lifelong love of hockey lead to a stint working for the Colorado Avalanche, and she still plays in local leagues and coaches the Aspen Junior Hockey U-19 girls.
