Local Photographer Gary Gleason Featured In New Red Brick West Gallery

Gary Gleason

The Red Brick Center for the Arts has opened a new gallery space. It’s an effort to help meet the demand from local artists for places to exhibit their work.

A lobby and conference room were converted into the new West Gallery.  Red Brick executive director Sarah Roy says that the space gives artists the flexibility to have a solo show or a group show with a theme they self-select. She says it’s a chance for local artists to get their work in front of the community.

"These artists need this because exhibiting work is such an important part of the artistic process," she said.

The inaugural artist for the space is abstract photographer Gary Gleason.  The West Gallery show is his first solo exhibition. Gleason says he’s excited to hear responses to his work.

"To me, one of the things I’m most excited about is to hear people’s impressions because they say, ‘Oh, I see this,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. I never saw that before,'" said Gleason.

Openings for the West Gallery will coincide with the main gallery exhibition space for 2019. Artists can apply for the space on the Red Brick’s website.
