People who’ve been saved from distress in the wilderness by Mountain Rescue Aspen, or MRA, share their stories in Aspen tonight.
The organization is hosting an event, called “What was it like to be rescued” in an attempt to remove the stigma surrounding those who may have found themselves needing emergency assistance. Greg Shaffran with MRA says it's important for survivors to share their stories.
"It could be embarrassing, they feel like they did something wrong, they're gonna get in trouble, and we want to cut that out and present a place where people can talk openly about what their experience was like," said Shaffran.
Speakers from MRA, as well as the rescuees themselves, will discuss what it's like behind-the-scenes of a wilderness rescue.
The event takes place at the CB Cameron Rescue center starting at 5:30 p.m.
