Aspen City Council and Pitkin County appointed three citizens to the reorganized board of Aspen Pitkin County Housing Authority or APCHA. All three have already served on APCHA’s board.
Carson Schmitz, John Ward and Rick Head were picked from 32 applicants. David Laughren, who is not currently a board member, will be the alternate.
An agreement between the city and county in May created the new governing structure. Previously, five appointed citizens would make suggestions that had to be approved by the city and county.
These volunteers will work with councilmember Skippy Mesirow and county commissioner George Newman to create housing guidelines.
Citizen members will serve two to four-year terms.
The new board will be seated on August 1st and have their first meeting on August 7th.
