New Surface Lift Coming To Aspen Highlands

U.S. Forest Service

On Wednesday, the Pitkin County Board of Commissioners approved construction of a new lift on Aspen Highlands.

The new lift will serve the Golden Horn ski run, which is mainly used for ski race training. The Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) is funding the lift’s construction, operation, and snowmaking in the area it will serve.

Mark Godomsky is the club’s executive director and said young ski racers will benefit the most from the project.

“There are days that kids don’t get out of school until 2 o’clock,” Godomsky said. “And this is going to give them the opportunity to take twice as many runs in the afternoon and really work on the skills they spend the whole year working on.”

The surface lift will consist of a T-bar on which riders’ skis do not leave the ground. The AVSC hopes to break ground in June and get the lift running by November 2020.
