Open Enrollment Deadline Saturday

Valley residents are choosing to pay for health insurance on the exchange, even though the mandate no longer comes with a penalty.

Due to changes under the Trump administration, there is no fine for those who opt to be uninsured in 2019. But Mountain Family Health Centers enrollment manager Silvia Santana says they have not seen a reduction in the number of clients who have signed up.

“We anticipated that our enrollment [numbers] were going to drop and we were going to have to do a lot more education about the value of having health insurance,” said Santana. “But that has not been the case.”

Last year, Mountain Family helped 1,100 valley residents sign up for health insurance. There are three plans available in the area, all through Anthem.
