Polis In At Capitol

Scott Franz

Democrat Jared Polis was sworn in at the state capitol Tuesday as the 43rd governor of Colorado. Capitol correspondent  Scott Franz was at the ceremony and spoke with Alycin Bektesh about the historic event.

Polis is the first openly gay, elected governor in the country. His partner Marlon Reis held the bible as he was sworn. The couple have two children who were both present. The ceremony was opened by music from the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and the colors of the rainbow underneath the podium too. There were some other things that were unique about this ceremony, his first action as governor was to take a selfie. And the inaugural program was printed on hemp paper.
