Prescribed Burns Planned For Roaring Fork Valley

Local fire experts are planning prescribed burns in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys in the next few weeks.

One burn is planned for Cattle Creek, near the Lake Christine Fire area. Last spring’s controlled burns helped stop the spread of the fire’s western perimeter by limiting fuel. Ashes from the fire enrich the soil for new vegetation.

Two other burns are planned around Redstone and Silt. Burns will occur in the next couple weeks up into early November, causing smoke to be visible in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The U.S. forest service and other agencies are waiting for conditions that allow burn control and smoke dispersal, like sufficient moisture and low wind.
