The four finalists for Glenwood Springs' chief of police include one who oversaw the aftermath of a deadly shooting earlier this year and another who was recently placed on paid leave.
Captain Joseph Deras is from Gilroy, California, where a man shot and killed three people and injured more than a dozen others at the Gilroy Garlic Festival this past July.
Another candidate, Lianne Tuomey, was placed on paid leave from her position as the chief of police at the University of Vermont earlier this fall.
The other two finalists are Chief Daric Harvey from Canon City, Colorado, and Chief Cristian Hemingway from Bay Harbor Islands, Florida.
All four candidates will be at the Glenwood Springs Community Center to meet the public and answer questions Thursday starting at 4:30 p.m. City manager Debra Figuroa hopes to make an offer to the finalist in the next few weeks.
Former Glenwood Springs Chief of Police Terry Wilson retired in September after 35 years with the department.
