Public Invited To Shape Glenwood Springs Public Art Project

madelineweiner.com

The City of Glenwood Springs invites community members to provide input on a future piece of public art.

Wednesday evening, the public can meet artist Madeline Wiener and talk with her about creating a sculpture that will be the centerpiece of a future park on the north landing of the Grand Avenue bridge.

Wiener is a resident of Marble and has extensive experience in public art. She’s created a series called “Bench People” for many of those projects. These are large, contemporary human forms that also serve as sitting areas.

She says she aims to create a piece that’s rooted in the community’s vision.

“I want to express the character of Glenwood - in stone,” said Weiner.

This project is made possible by a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts awarded to Glenwood Springs earlier this year.

Wiener will present some of her earlier works, then lead a discussion during the design charrette. It starts at 5:30 p.m at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.
