The Aspen Institute announced its artists-in-residence yesterday. Opera singer Renée Fleming and sculptor Theaster Gates will come to Aspen this summer for the Aspen Ideas Festival, as well as to participate in other Aspen Institute events nationally.

“I hope that in participating, I'm able to more clearly articulate the things I believe in while deepening the relationships that have become key to my successes,” Gates said in a press release.

Fleming is a Grammy-winning opera singer, and has performed and trained in Aspen numerous times over her career.

Gates is a potter, but has also studied urban planning. He turned a cluster of buildings on Chicago’s South Side into cultural spaces.

Patrick Fort grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, nurturing a love for ice hockey and deli sandwiches. After moving to Colorado in 2010 to attend the University of Colorado to study music, Patrick discovered his love for journalism. In 2013, Patrick created and hosted the award-winning radio program Colorado Stories, a news program that covered CU and the surrounding community. An avid mountain and road cyclist, Patrick also referees youth ice hockey. He loves '60s pop bands and and trying new recipes ranging from milk-braised carnitas to flourless cakes.
