The Reporter Two-Way: FAA restricts ASE runway

This summer, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) made a ruling that will result in longer delays at the Aspen Pitkin County Airport.

ASE is rated one of the most difficult in the world for a pilot to fly into. All kinds of things can make the landing impossible, including lack of visibility, weight loads and wait times. If there is too much of a back up on the runway, most aircraft can only circle once or twice before needing to be diverted to another airport to refuel. This summer’s FAA ruling will result in even longer back-ups. Reporter Alycin Bektesh checked in with airport director John Kinney and speaks with producer Christin Kay on what that means for valley travelers.
