The Roaring Fork Conservancy is hosting a discussion on cloud-seeding Thursday.
Dave Kanzer, deputy chief engineer for the Colorado River Water Conservation District will lead the talk. Kanzer will touch on the science behind cloud-seeding, a practice that involves injecting silver iodide into the atmosphere to “plant” clouds with moisture that will produce snow and hopefully build up the snowpack.
Water managers are debating using cloud-seeding as a way to combat dry winters. Thursday's discussion covers where the practice has been successful and what challenges it presents for the Roaring Fork Watershed.
“Plant A Seed, Grow a snowpack: A discussion of cloud seeding in the Colorado River Basin” at the Roaring Fork Conservancy’s River Center beings at 5:30 p.m.
