Roaring Fork School District plans on a delayed start for 2017-18 school year

Students in the Roaring Fork School District will start classes two weeks late next year.

The Grand Avenue Bridge will close in August and there will be major construction on school facilities.

Building the new bridge is the main culprit. It’s supposed to close for more than three months. The school district said 175 staff members and 650 students cross the bridge everyday.

The two-week delay will allow commuters the chance to adjust to the bridge’s closure without contending with school traffic. It’ll also allow the district to study the impact and strategize the traffic plan.

A delayed start is being recommended district-wide, as many staffers commute up-valley. There will also be significant construction on school facilities around the district.
