Robotics lab opens in Glenwood Springs

Valley View hospital in Glenwood Springs is opening two labs to improve care in the Roaring Fork Valley. One of them has a robot arm.

The robot arm can do things more precisely than the human hand, said Dr. Frank Laws of Valley View Hospital. To unclog a patient’s artery, say, the doctor will now drive the robot arm, which can work in one millimeter increments.

Laws said patients who needed advanced treatment were constantly having to leave the valley and go to hospitals in Denver, or elsewhere. They don’t have to do that anymore.

Laws said the technology will protect doctors and patients; they won’t have to use as much radiation.
