SkiCo donates to local mental health initiatives

Aspen Skiing Company

Aspen Skiing Company's brand-new philanthropic venture, the Caring for Community Fund, awarded $35,000 to 10 local organizations this week. Many of its recipients work throughout the Roaring Fork Valley to provide mental health services.

Aspen Strong, the Aspen Hope Center and RESPONSE are among the recipients of SkiCo’s grants. Matthew Hamilton, the director of sustainability for SkiCo, said the Caring for Community Fund is a close relative of the company’s environment foundation and that the two are complementary.

"Certainly, people’s health and their ability to live healthy and to not live in the shadows, those are critical issues. Equally important, I think, are the environment in which we live; it all brought us all to the Roaring Fork Valley, and it’s part of one’s mental health."

This is the fund’s first year.
