Buses to the Maroon Bells will be up and running Saturday for the summer season, but tickets and parking will be more expensive.
Buses will run about every 20 minutes from 8:05 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets will be $2 more compared to last year, with adults now priced at $8 and kids at $6. But with new parking fees, the overall price for seeing the Bells has about doubled, because leaving a vehicle at Aspen Highlands now costs $5 a day, instead of being free.
The Forest Service will receive more money per bus pass sold, which is expected to bring in around $55,000 this season. That will go towards toilet paper, cleaning supplies, brochures and other upkeep at the Maroon Bells visitor area.
Driving personal vehicles on Maroon Creek Road beyond the Forest Service gate will cost $10 and will be limited to folks with disabilities, kids in car seats, and campers staying at campgrounds along the road.
