Sunlight Mountain is opening up new runs for the first time since 1993, as part of a four million dollar expansion. The Glenwood Springs resort will open five new runs this season, adding 500 vertical feet to the mountain’s East Ridge section.

“I think it’s going to open some people’s eyes,” said Hawks. “I think some people might give us a try for the first time. And that’s much to the chagrin of our locals; they just assume most people overlook Sunlight.” Right now, that terrain will require a quarter-mile hike out. It will later be serviced by a new lift that’s due for construction during summer 2021. Hawks says current conditions should allow Sunlight to open up all five runs by this weekend.
