Three finalists picked for judgeship

The replacement for a local judge has been narrowed down to three candidates. Aspen Public Radio’s Carolyn Sackariason reports.

Ninth Judicial District Court Judge Daniel Petre will retire on Oct. 1. The three people vying for the seat are assistant district attorney Anne Norrdin, Garfield County attorney Tari Williams, and Scott Turner, deputy attorney general in the criminal justice section of the Colorado Department of Law.

Petre has been criticized by his peers for taking too long to decide cases. He still hasn’t made a ruling on a lawsuit filed nearly six years about a parking dispute between snowmobilers and residents in Lenado.

Under the Colorado constitution, Governor John Hickenlooper’s office has 15 days to appoint Petre’s replacement.
