Timeline unclear for Basalt's interim town manager

Basalt Chamber of Commerce

Basalt’s interim town manager will continue to serve until elected officials can find somebody else.

Basalt has had an interim town manager for about a month, Mayor Jacque Whitsitt said. His name is Ron Miller; he’s from the Front Range, once served as Aurora’s city manager and is being paid $75 per hour.

The Basalt Town Council will meet next week to discuss the process of selecting his replacement. Then, with the help of a “headhunter,” as Whitsitt termed it, she and her fellow council members will go out and find good candidates.

Miller is a contractor, so hiring him permanently is off the table. He will, however, continue serving as town manager until a successor is found.

When former town manager Mike Scanlon unexpectedly quit in August, Judi Tippetts took his place briefly. Shorty thereafter, she went back to being the assistant town manager and chief financial officer for the town. Her tenure with Basalt could come to a close shortly, as she’s now a finalist for the town manager position in Frisco, Colo.
