Tipton reaching out to Pitkin County

Representative Scott Tipton’s “mobile office hours” will be coming through Aspen this Thursday, April 7. From 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the public can meet with members of Tipton’s staff and hear updates on the legislative session.

Tipton is currently fighting a proposed U.S. Forest Service requirement regarding private water rights on public lands. If passed, the measure would affect the Aspen Skiing Co., as well as ranchers who currently have permits to use public land for grazing.

An extended interview with Aspen Public Radio reporter Alycin Bektesh and Congressman Scott Tipton, Representative for Colorado's 3rd District.

“If they want to be able to get that permit renewed to be able to maintain the ski area and operate it, the Forest Service was going to require that they sign over their water rights to the federal government,” he said. “We gently call it a taking, it’s actually theft.”

Office hours will be held at the Pitkin County annex building, located at 530 E Main St.
