Two Blocks Of Glenwood Springs’ 7th Street Closed To Traffic For ‘Beautification’

Two blocks of 7th Street in Glenwood Springs close to traffic on Monday for construction and won’t reopen until July 4. The area, however, will remain open to pedestrians. It’s part of an effort to spruce up downtown.

7th Street parallels the Colorado River; the two blocks now under construction are between Cooper and Colorado Avenues.

Deric Walter, the engineer for the project, says the project will provide more space for pedestrians.

“We’re going to widen out the sidewalks, and we’re going to make the areas along the restaurants wider,” he said.

Crews will add landscaping to create a buffer between the businesses and the road and will also replace concrete sidewalk with clay pavers, so it looks nicer.

Glenwood Springs is paying Gould Construction $2.1 million for the job.
