Voter voices on RE-1 Bond Issue

A vote today will decide if the Roaring Fork School District can borrow $122 million. That funds would come from a property tax increase.

The proposed bond on ballot issue RE-1 would pay for renovating Glenwood Springs Elementary and other schools, and pay for teacher affordable housing, among many other things.

Amy Spradlin dropped off her ballot this afternoon near Garfield County’s election headquarters in Glenwood Springs. She voted for the proposal.

“So I’m a school teacher at a charter school-- not in the District," said Spradlin, "and I feel very positive about the bond issues.”

A voter who called himself “John Christopher” was also turning in his ballot. He concurred.

“I voted for it. I didn’t read all the fine print," said Christopher,"but I’ve been to the school down here, the elementary school, and it could benefit from some upgrades.”

Ballots from Garfield, Eagle, and Pitkin County will be tallied tonight.
