Water Managers Boost River Flows

Colorado River Water Conservation District

Water managers are boosting flows in the Fryingpan and Roaring Fork Rivers.

Low flows this season have caused problems for farmers and fish alike. The Colorado River District, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are working together to increase flows downstream from Ruedi Reservoir.

Anticipated releases are expected to range between 50 and 100 cfs. The increased flows should lower water temperatures for trout - who thrive at between 45 and 65 degrees.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced voluntary fishing closures earlier this month on sections of the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers, those will remain in place.
