Week In The Arts: April 8 - 14, 2019

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

Tuesday, Anderson Ranch hosts their Spring Open House, which includes open studios, a gallery exhibition and a talk from the Ranch’s studio coordinators. The open house starts at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday, “Art In Action” opens at the Aspen Chapel Gallery. The exhibition is a partnership with English In Action and features work from ten local artists. An opening reception begins at 5 p.m.

Thursday, the Aspen Words Literary Prize awards ceremony will be livestreamed at the Pitkin County Library. As part of the event, the five finalists discuss their work with NPR’s Renee Montagne. The ceremony screening begins at 4:15 p.m. in the Dunaway Community Room.

The play “Bluenose” starts its run at Thunder River Theatre Company on Friday. The production, about pirates sailing the open seas in search of treasure and friendship, is a part of the Theatre For Young Audiences series.  Friday’s performance begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.

Friday is also the final night of the Aspen Historical Society’s Retro Ski Film series this year.  Ski films from the ‘70s will be screened at the Limelight Hotel in Aspen, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Temporary hosts a Silent Disco on Saturday.  Each guest receives a set of headphones to wear and can switch the stations to play tunes from two dueling DJs. The event raises funds for the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Music Scholarship Fund and begins at 8 p.m.
