Week In The Arts: Dec. 10 - 16, 2018

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

 

Monday is Open Mic Night at The Red Onion in Aspen.  Local musicians have a chance to perform their tunes in front of an audience.  The event starts at 9 p.m.

Kids in grades five and up can create steampunk-inspired hot air balloon ornaments on Tuesday at the Basalt Library.  The ornaments will be created from upcycled materials. The workshop starts at 4 p.m.

Thursday, the film “Adventure Not War” will be screened at The Temporary.  The documentary chronicles the mission of Stacy Bare, a combat veteran who set out to climb and ski in all the places where he fought and served. It will be followed by a discussion with Bare. The film begins at 7 p.m.

 
“Beyond Skiing Everest” will be screened at the Wheeler on Friday. It's the story of the ski mountaineering career of identical twin brothers Mike and Steve Marolt. The film starts at 7 p.m.
 
 
Saturday, Arte En Espanol returns to the Aspen Art Museum. The afternoon includes guided tours, music, food and crafts for all ages, all entirely in Spanish. The event starts at 3 p.m.

The Aspen Choral Society performs Handel’s Messiah this weekend. The concert features an 80-voice choir, soloists, and a professional orchestra. The performance takes place at Basalt’s Grace Church on Friday and the Wheeler Opera House on Saturday. Both events begin at 7 p.m.

Sunday, AspenFilm presents the film “This Mountain Life” at the Wheeler. The documentary explores the draw of the mountains on people all around the globe. The film begins at 6:30 p.m.
