Week In The Arts: Jan. 21 - 27, 2019

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

Tuesday, The Met: Live In HD comes to the Wheeler Opera House with a screening of “Aida.” The event begins at 5:30 p.m.

Also Tuesday, folksinger and songwriter Brett Dennen plays the Belly Up.  Doors open at 7 p.m.

“Land of the Dead” screens Wednesday at the Aspen Art Museum. It’s a part of the "Zombie Movie Survival Club," the current "Movies at the Museum" series.  The film starts at 5 p.m.

Wednesday is also "Foreign Film Night" at the Basalt Library. "Force Majeure" will be screened. The dramedy is about a husband who prioritizes his own escape over the safety of his family during an avalanche.  The film starts at 5 p.m.

Starting Thursday, Shake Shack pops up at EMP Winter House’s yurt village in Aspen.  The special menu runs through Saturday and includes ShackBurgers and truffle gravy fries.

Thursday is "Artists at the Library" at Basalt Library. Local photographer Jeremy Joseph and painter Kelly Peters will speak about their work at a reception beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The X Games return to Buttermilk Thursday through Sunday. This year features musical performances by Lil Wayne, Louis The Child, The Chainsmokers and Kygo, and of course, some extreme winter sports action.   

Saturday, honky-tonk country group Halden Wofford & The Hi*Beams play the Temporary in Basalt. Doors open at 8 p.m.
