Week in the Arts - March 14th

  Geraldine Brooks and Tony Horwitz continue Aspen Words’ Winter Words series. They are considered to be a modern-day literature power couple.

 

The first of two benefit concerts for the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts is on Tuesday. The Glenwood High School Jazz band will open for the local group, The Confluents.

 

Nilson Matta’s Brazilian Voyage plays the first two nights at the JAS Cafe on Thursday.

 

Bars and restaurants will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Snowmass. The holiday is also being celebrated at St. Patrick’s in Basalt and at St. Mary’s in Aspen.

 

It is a big weekend for music in Aspen. Umphrey’s McGee plays the first of three nights at the Belly Up. Then on Sunday, Boulder’s own Leftover Salmon plays the venue.

 

The Cornerstone Classical School’s all school play goes on stage in Carbondale on Friday. Kids of all ages will perform Seussical the Musical.

 

Go to the Wheeler Opera House on Sunday for One Night of Queen. The cover band recreates the look, sound and showmanship of Freddie Mercury and the rest of the band.

 

Nahko and Medicine for the people play as part of the Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series in Snowmass on Saturday. A fireworks display follows the show.

 

Rifle’s Spring Craft Fair and Pie Championship returns on Saturday. The award for best pie will be awarded at 2:30.

Patrick Fort grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, nurturing a love for ice hockey and deli sandwiches. After moving to Colorado in 2010 to attend the University of Colorado to study music, Patrick discovered his love for journalism. In 2013, Patrick created and hosted the award-winning radio program Colorado Stories, a news program that covered CU and the surrounding community. An avid mountain and road cyclist, Patrick also referees youth ice hockey. He loves '60s pop bands and and trying new recipes ranging from milk-braised carnitas to flourless cakes.
