Week in the Arts: March 19, 2018

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

 

Monday afternoon is the West Slope Veterans Game Gathering. Veterans are invited to play board games at the Veteran’s Resource Center in Glenwood Springs, starting at 3:00.

Monday night, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies asks, “Is there life beyond?” at Astronomy Night. The evening includes a mini-lecture and guided stargazing at Hallam Lake, starting at 7:30.

 

On Tuesday, Aspen Winter Words presents author William Finnegan. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography for his best-selling memoir, "Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life." The lecture begins at Paepcke Auditorium at 6:00.

On Wednesday, the film "Lost in Translation" will be screened as a part of Aspen Art Museum’s Movies at the Museum series.  The show starts at 7:00.

Also Wednesday, the children’s musical "Mr. Popper’s Penguins" will be staged at the Wheeler Opera House. The performance starts at 5:30.

Thursday, The Met: Live in HD presents Rossini's "Semiramide" at the Wheeler Opera House.  The screening begins at 5:30.

On Friday at the Wheeler, fans of HBO’s "Game of Thrones" can check out a performance of "Musical Thrones: A Parody of Ice and Fire." The musical begins at 7:30.

Friday night, dance music producer Illenium will be at the Belly Up.  Doors open at 9:00.

Saturday, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet presents "An Evening With Joyce Yang," a performance accompanied by live piano. The performance is at the Aspen District Theater at 7:30.

Also Saturday, comedian Sam Tallent brings his routine to the Temporary, starting at 8:00.
