Week In The Arts: Sept. 17 - 23

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

Multimedia artists Holly Roberts and Roberto Juarez present a guest faculty lecture on Tuesday at Anderson Ranch.  The event starts at 7 p.m. in Schermer Meeting Hall.

Wednesday, Anderson Ranch hosts a screening of “Dogtown and Z-Boys.” The documentary takes a looks at the birth of skateboarding in the California surf community.  The film starts at 7 p.m.

Aspen Laugh Fest presents comedian Matt Bellassai at the Wheeler Opera House on Thursday. Bellassai hosts the "Unhappy Hour" podcast and web series “To Be Honest.” He takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, the Art Base in Basalt and Aspen’s Skye Gallery present “ArtBASE X SkyeGallery,” a joint exhibition. The opening starts at 5 p.m. at Skye Gallery.

Also Thursday, the Red Brick art gallery opens an exhibit celebrating its 25th anniversary.  The public can tour the studios of the current resident artists at the Red Brick. The opening begins at 5 p.m.

Friday, Colorado’s gypsy jazz group La Pompe takes the stage at the Temporary in Basalt. The band blends American jazz with French ballads.  The tunes start at 8 p.m.

The Carbondale Clay Center hosts its first ever “Throwdown HoeDown” chili cook-off on Saturday.  Local chefs compete for the title of best chili, which will be served in local artist-made bowls that guests can take home with them.  The event starts at 4 p.m. at the Carbondale Clay Center.
