Week in the Arts: Sept. 25, 2017

 

Welcome to the beginning of a new fall in the Roaring Fork Valley!

 

Wednesday, blues funk band Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears will play Belly Up, Aspen with Lightnin Malcolm at 8:30 p.m.

 

Thursday in Carbondale, Studio for Arts and Works or SAW will have an open house starting at 5 p.m.

 

Also Thursday, is there such thing as bad art? The Aspen Art Museum seeks to find out with The Great Debate, starting at 5 p.m.

 

Thursday at the Carbondale Branch Public Library, CU Boulder Assistant Professor Ricarose Roque will present on inclusive learning and new media as part of the CU Carbondale Lecture series. That talk begins at 6 p.m.

 

And Thunder River Theatre Company’s production of the play “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” starts at 7:30 p.m., running Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

 

Friday, the Spectrum Dance Festival, as brought forth by Dance Initiative, kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. and will run through Sunday.

 

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue’s fall musical “Little Shop of Horrors” will run at 7:30 p.m.

 

Friday at The Wheeler Opera House, the alt-rock band Elliot Root plays as part of the venue’s On the Rise series. That show starts at 7:30 p.m.

 

Also Friday, The Taylor Scott Band will play at The Temporary in Basalt, starting at 8 p.m.

 

Saturday, Carbondale native Micah Springer will give a reading at Explore Booksellers from her 100 percent PC recycled book “Keepers of the Story,” beginning at 4:30 p.m.

 

Saturday at Belly Up, Aspen, indie folk Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst will play with Tim Kasher, opening for him at 9 p.m.
