Wikipedia edit-a-thon at AAM

In honor of Women's History Month, museums and universities around the world invite people to add entries on female artists to Wikipedia. Locals can join in on Thursday at the Aspen Art Museum.

Wikipedia edit-a-thons were started by Art+Feminism, an organization dedicated to improving gender balance on the internet’s largest encyclopedia.

According to Art+Feminism, there will be over 500 edit-a-thons this month.  This is the fifth year of the campaign, and the second year the Aspen Art Museum has taken part.

Michelle Dezember, the museum’s learning director, said the event is focused on building out the pages of women who have been featured in their exhibitions. “Because in some cases we found these incredible artists that we were showing, they didn’t have as robust a page as they deserved. So that’s been our motivator,” she said.

The museum will provide tutorials on adding entries, as well as childcare.
