Wilderness Workshop celebrates national monuments after Trump shrinks two

Local conservation watchdog group Wilderness Workshop will celebrate the Antiquities Act Wednesday night at the Third Street Center gym in Carbondale.

This comes in the wake of the Trump administration’s recent decision to slash the size of two Utah national monuments.

A panel of experts will address the history of the Antiquities Act, which was signed into law by President Teddy Roosevelt. It gives the president authority to create national monuments.

Recently, the Trump administration shrank the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah by about 85 percent and halved another Utah monument, Grand Staircase Escalante.
