High Notes: Behzod Abduraimov And Beethoven

Both Aspen Public Radio and the Aspen Music Festival and School are celebrating Beethoven's 250th birthday with a vengeance. That's a challenge these days, but this Sunday at 3:00 p.m.,  pianist Behzod Abduraimov will be playing on the livestream for the Aspen Music Festival's virtual concert series. Among other favorites, he'll be playing Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata.

Behzod joins Music Festival president Alan Fletcher in a High Notes conversation in anticipation of his live "concert" in Harris Hall. Alan also talks with percussionist and teacher Edward Stephan ahead of Wednesday evening's Faculty and Student Showcase.

Classical music reporter Chris Mohr has loved classical music since he was twelve. “And I owe it all to radio,” Chris explains. “I grew up in a farm town east of Cleveland. One day I turned on the local classical radio station. They were playing Vivaldi, and it was like the gates of heaven opened up to me!" Chris is also a composer, and is working on a 53-note-to-the-octave oratorio, "Melodies of the Shoreless Sea." This is his ninth summer working for Aspen Public Radio.
