Basalt students head to state robot competition again

Science students from Basalt Middle School will once again square off with their peers from around the state. They’re heading for a statewide robotics championship this winter.  The team of seven students will compete in Denver in January, to test their skills in programming robots to pick things up and carry out a variety of other tasks.

Basalt Middle School won a Northrop Grumman Scholarship which will finance a trip for 50 students to visit the Space Foundation Discovery Center in Colorado Springs.

Basalt science, literacy teacher wins statewide award

Two schools in the Midvalley are welcoming new school administrators. The Roaring Fork School District announced new principals at Basalt High School and Crystal River Elementary School in Carbondale. 

Matthew Koenigsknecht will lead Crystal River Elementary School. He was a language arts teacher in Denver and managed a summer program at Basalt Elementary School.

Peter Mueller will take the reigns at Basalt High School. He works for The Nature Conservancy and served as principal at Telluride public schools. Mueller also worked in Evergreen, Colorado at a private school.

Basalt students start “penny war” for Nepal aid

Two young residents of the Roaring Fork Valley are pitching in with the effort to help repair after the massive earthquake in Nepal. Basalt residents Tashi Jackson and Karuna Owens are starting a fundraising competition.
