Gregg & Cath Photographers

When AJ Adams was 14, he learned his mom had cancer. Not sure how to process the emotional toll that comes with the diagnosis, he said all he wanted was to learn as much as he could about cancer and other people affected.

“I didn’t really know what was going on. I didn’t know how to take it,” he said. “That’s when I learned that there are so many positive people, and they made me realize that I shouldn’t really be too afraid of it.”

So he decided to make a documentary.

The Wheeler’s Monday Night Documentary Series kicks off this evening.

Telling a story through photographs...that's the objective of the Visual Storytelling and Documentary Photography workshop at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. The workshop is co-taught by James Estrin, The New York Times Senior Staff Photographer, and Ed Kashi, photojournalist and filmmaker whose work has appeared in National Geographic, Newsweek, TIME, and The New York Times Magazine, among others.

Estrin and Kashi discuss their workshop at the Ranch, the developments they've seen in the field of photographer, and their careers.

And all that snowpack is good news for farmers and ranchers in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The Aspen community continues to grapple with the recent loss of a beloved newspaper editor. We take a look at how hard it can be to prevent suicide.

On a lighter note, soon it’ll be much easier to speed through security at Aspen’s airport, a Catholic monk in Old Snowmass is featured in a new movie and the Olympic Games have kicked off in Sochi… we’ll talk with an Aspen athlete who’s settling in and getting ready to compete. We’ll also hear the latest on security concerns at the games in Russia.

The Crash Reel

As the Olympic Games get closer, the competitions are heating up. The Aspen-area athletes competing in ski racing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, snowboarding and freeskiing will find out soon whether they’ve made Team USA. Some local athletes compete in the halfpipe like snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler and freeskiers Torin Yater-Wallace and Alex Ferriera. Skiing Halfpipe is a new discipline at the upcoming Olympics. Just like many competitions, this event can be dangerous and even fatal. A new documentary features 2010 Olympic hopeful Kevin Pearce who crashed during training and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen reports.
