All three counties in the Roaring Fork Valley are under Stage 1 fire restrictions, which meant a prohibition on fireworks over Fourth of July weekend. Sheriff’s offices in Pitkin and Eagle Counties said they responded to a handful of reports involving fireworks, but they were all minor incidents and didn’t result in any citations.

Eagle County has decided that fire restrictions will be automatically triggered anytime there’s a Red Flag Warning in the area.

 

The National Weather Service issues Red Flag warnings when low humidity and strong winds form ideal conditions for wildfires.

Development proposals in the mid Roaring Fork Valley have prompted law enforcement officials to discuss whether more officers are needed. The Basalt Police Department and Eagle County Sheriff’s office have been talking for a while now about staffing in the El Jebel area. The two agencies often trade off handling cases, based on which has more officers on duty.
