outdoor education

The Outdoor Education program at Aspen Middle School is pretty unique. Teachers lead students into the wilderness with the goal of teaching leadership, teamwork and resilience. This isn’t a club or an afterschool activity; a whole school week is dedicated to the experience. The program is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Welcome to Valley Roundup. I’m Carolyn Sackariason

Joining me are Madeleine Osberger, reporter for the Aspen Daily News, Aspen Times columnists Roger Marolt and Andy Stone, and Randy Essex, editor of the Glenwood Post Independent.

The votes are in and have been counted. The controversial Base 2 hotel proposal in downtown Aspen went down in flames. And that’s despite the developer throwing tens of thousands of dollars into the campaign.

A local conservation group has launched a fundraising campaign to preserve a piece of land used by the Aspen School District. As Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen reports, the Marble Basecamp is at risk of being sold.
