A Florida development company wants to build a new Four Seasons Hotel near Aspen’s “S” curves, but there’s a major hurdle first. Miami-based Cisneros Real Estate wants to annex nearly seven acres of County land at the base of Shadow Mountain in a residential neighborhood.
The company envisions 140 lodging units, more than 30 fractionals, and four free market residences. Basalt-based RJ Gallagher is the local contact for the project, and says all those details could change.
“I think what’s important to realize is what we’ve put into the annexation petition is to get us into the process,” explained Gallagher on Monday. “We still have to go through all that process to understand what can be built there.”
The project would require rezoning, and the property stretches along West Hopkins Avenue, a popular bike and pedestrian corridor on the southwest side of town. A rough description submitted to Aspen officials says the developer would not ask for code variances when it comes to height, affordable housing, parking, and density.
