At a meeting Tuesday, Pitkin County Commissioner Greg Poschman said he’d like to see real efforts to eliminate plastic.
Poschman referenced models of communities across the country and the world reducing the use of plastics, including everything from straws to containers in grocery stores.
“I think it’s time to have that discussion, and if we did, it’s one to have with the city because it’s critical that they’re part of it,” he said.
Plastic straws, in particular, are a problem because they cannot be recycled. Commissioners agreed to discuss the issue with Aspen Mayor Steve Skadron and city manager Steve Barwick.
