Week in the Arts - April 18th

  On Monday, the Aspen Institute hosts the event “Athens to Aspen: Journeys of Meaning”. The seminar is completed through three meetings anchored by the work of Shakespeare and ancient and contemporary texts.

The Basalt Regional Library is hosting the CU Boulder Graduate Brass Quintet on Tuesday. The performance is being named “Brass with Class”.

The next night, the library will be screening the classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. Follow Ferris Bueller as he drags his girlfriend and helpless friend Cameron around the Windy City for a day of baseball and impersonating the sausage king of Chicago.

On Thursday, Naomi Beckwith will leader a curator talk at the Aspen Art Museum. Beckwith is the curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Her lecture will explore the work of artists Mickalene Thomas. Thomas is currently exhibiting at the museum.

Glenn Smith will host an art talk at the Art Base in Basalt on Thursday at 5:30

One of Carbondale’s signature events returns on Thursday. The 5Point Film Festival returns this year with a lineup that features more women than ever. The concert-style film festival will also feature talks by people who make a living out of exploring the outdoors.

 

Patrick Fort grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, nurturing a love for ice hockey and deli sandwiches. After moving to Colorado in 2010 to attend the University of Colorado to study music, Patrick discovered his love for journalism. In 2013, Patrick created and hosted the award-winning radio program Colorado Stories, a news program that covered CU and the surrounding community. An avid mountain and road cyclist, Patrick also referees youth ice hockey. He loves '60s pop bands and and trying new recipes ranging from milk-braised carnitas to flourless cakes.
