Aspen Partners With Lyft Rideshare Service

On Monday, Aspen City council will consider a partnership with the rideshare service, Lyft.

The collaboration between the city and Lyft would serve as a foundation for the SHIFT program, an initiative to reduce traffic and increase public transportation use.

The six-week trial incentivizes different ways to get around Aspen, all of which would be housed within the Lyft app.

Lyft would provide dockless bikes and scooters, available to users for a yet-undecided fee. It would also include free “microtransit” - or shuttles  - from the Intercept lot into Aspen during peak commuting hours.

Users would also be able to hail Lyft vehicles in town at a rate subsidized by the city.

As part of the contract, Lyft would supply Aspen with user data and marketing, information that the city would then use to set priorities for future public transportation. While the budget is not finalized, the contract states that funds would not exceed eight hundred thousand dollars.

SHIFT launches in June 2019.
