BOE Holds Off On Superintendent Contract Extention

After a month of closed executive sessions, the Aspen Board of Education has announced they will not renew superintendent John Maloy’s contract.

Maloy’s three-year contract has been renewed each year since he took the role in 2010 and does not expire until 2021. During his tenure, there have been perennial complaints from teachers and parents about workplace climate, teacher retention and academic scores. Earlier this school year, the board decided to bring in outside consultants to help analyze the current climate and set goals for improvements. In a statement from the board, they said it would not be appropriate to renew his contract until results of the climate and culture study is in.
