Tonight, Aspen City Council will hear from the Parks Department about how to handle new public art pieces and the installation process.
Teresa Hackbarth from the department said the city is trying to make creating public art easier.
“A lot of it was handled on a case-by-case basis,” she said. “We didn’t feel there was a streamlined process for it.”
Hackbarth said the city wants to create a clear, policy for how to accept and approve public art, and is considering creating an art advisory council. Carbondale, Basalt, Snowmass and Glenwood Springs all have groups that think about how to implement art into public space.
There is no current timeline to finalize these plans.
